POSTCARDS MAKE GREAT MARKETING TOOLS

5 Tips for a Successful Campaign

Postcard campaigns can be a powerful marketing tool, generating high-quality sales leads and a boost in traffic to your Web site. Here’s how to get maximum exposure from your next mailing:

1) QUALITY MATTERS
Like you, we get a ton of those flimsy, homemade postcards in the mail each week, promoting everything from real estate services to hair salon openings. While we applaud the effort these companies make to market themselves, we can’t condone the poor quality they project with these dog-eared mailings. Spend a little more money to create a better impression. Upgrade your look with:

• Heavier paper stock – the thicker the paper, the more luxurious the image
• Oversized cards – they stand out from the clutter
• Color – use at least one color (besides black) to create a little wow! factor

2) HIT THE RIGHT TARGET
It’s a waste of money to flood the market with your message, so be sure to invest in a high-quality mailing list that will reach your target prospects. You can request lists based on any number of factors, including zip code, profession, age, income, hobbies, pets/kids in household and much more.

3) GET SHORTY
You have little space to get your message across, so be concise. Begin by briefly stating the benefits you offer, then focus on generating sales inquiries by motivating prospects to call, go to your place of business or visit your Web site, for example:

• Call today for a free consultation
• Redeem this coupon in store by June 1
• Check out our Web site for more information and to subscribe to our free newsletter

4) TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Time your postcard to arrive during a postal “lull,” usually Tuesday or Wednesday. The volume of mail is usually lighter on those days—plus, you avoid hectic Mondays and “it’s the weekend” Fridays, when prospects are less likely to focus.

5) GO FIRST CLASS
It doesn’t cost that much more to buy first-class stamps, and this little investment can make a big difference. Your piece will arrive more quickly, and yes, prospects are checking to see if you’re a “first class” or “bulk” kind of company.
