VERBS WITH BITE
Want to spice up your marketing copy? Then give the boot to "to be."
Verbs provide the "muscle" in a sentence-they give your story color,
action, and momentum and paint vivid pictures for your readers. So draw
readers in with snappy verbs, steering clear of the many forms of "to be"
whenever possible (these include "is," "are," "am,"
"was," and "were"). Check out these before-and-after
examples: Before: He was in pain. After: The pain seared
through every joint and muscle in his body. Before: Her SAT score was
down 400 points this year. After: Her SAT score plummeted 400 points
this year. Before: The CEO was a little-known figure until two years
ago. After: The CEO burst out of obscurity two years ago. Need
