DRIVING PROSPECTS AWAY?

If you want to send potential clients running, pepper your Web site with errors.

Go to any given Web site, and you're bound to find errors: spelling mistakes, grammatical gaffes, punctuation blunders, and poor sentence structure. And that doesn't even begin to cover voice, tone, and word choice—all those things that give your site its personality and make it fun, interesting, and enjoyable to read.

Below is an example of a homepage we Turtles stumbled across recently. This site represents an upscale real estate firm that caters to affluent, well-educated clients in prosperous communities. In one short paragraph, we found 10 mistakes.

Is this the image a supposedly sophisticated firm—or any company for that matter—should be projecting? No. Whether you're selling pooper scoopers or posh mansions, your site should, at the very least, showcase impeccable spelling and grammar. And if spelling and grammar aren't your forte, find a good editor who can review and polish your copy.

Where's Waldo? See if you can find the mistakes.
We've changed incriminating details but have left the errors intact. Can you find all 10 of them? If you get stuck, there's an answer key on the next page, along with an explanation of which rules were broken. Good luck!
