21 WAYS TO BEAT THE SUMMER MELTDOWN

Don't take the slow "scary season" lying down. There are scores of things you can do now to keep your momentum going and ensure that clients and prospects are talking about you. Here are 21 ways to get some buzz:

1. Start an e-zine
2. Send out a press release (good PR opportunities include: milestone anniversary; new employee; launch of new product or service; charity/fundraising affiliation)
3. Sponsor a sports team or a local sporting event, like a running race, triathlon, Little League team, etc. (find races in New Jersey and other states at www.runningintheusa.com/RacesByState.asp?State=NJ)
4. Participate in a sporting event as a company and promote it through your e-zine, inviting others to join in
5. Throw a party at your office, on the beach, in a restaurant on a boat, by the pool ... and invite your favorite clients and top prospects
6. Rewrite your Web site copy to make it search-engine optimized (find keywords at www.wordtracker.com or www.KeywordDiscovery.com)
7. Reach out (by phone, e-mail, or snail mail) to former clients and let them know you're thinking of them
8. Launch a customer-retention program
9. Join a new business or networking group
10. Volunteer to speak at an upcoming business/networking meeting
11. Launch a witty direct-mail campaign
12. Create a special, limited-time-only product or promotion just for the summer months
13. Zero in on a specific neighborhood or niche market and promote, promote, promote
14. Launch a referral program with a summer theme
15. Exhibit at specialty shows and promote a special product/service
16. Launch a strategic-partnership program by reaching out to professionals (even competitors) who can refer you business, and vice versa; brainstorm ways to help each other

18. Run a contest, drawing, or challenge for the summer; dare your clients to do something different by doing something different yourself
19. Start a blog (sign up for free blogs at www.blogger.com, http://wordpress.com, and www.livejournal.com)
20. Craft a short how-to or tips booklet and offer it as a free download off your Web site
