DO YOUR TOP CUSTOMERS
"FEEL THE LOVE"?
We're all so busy, we sometimes take our best clients for granted and neglect to give them the extra-special thanks they deserve. These folks are our bread and butter, and we should make a concerted effort to tell them how much we appreciate them.
Here are a few easy things you can do:
Customer-Appreciation Day
There's Mother's Day. Grandparents' Day. Secretary's Day. Heck, even the groundhog has his special day. So why not institute a customer-appreciation day? This would be an annual event in which you invite your top clients to a special lunch, cocktail party, picnic, or dinner that celebrates them. Hold a drawing for a gift basket or other cool prizes, and hand out special little gifts to each guest. If the group is small enough, include a handwritten note to each telling them why they're special.
Client Advisory Board
Invite a handful of your top clients to sit on your "board." Don't have one? You can easily create an advisory board by asking people you like and respect to convene with you periodically and provide feedback on things like: how you can improve your business practices; how effective your marketing materials are; what ideas they may have (from a customer's standpoint) for taking your business to the next level; what they, as clients, would like to see from you company; and so forth.
This arrangement serves a dual purpose—it provides important feedback from people you trust, and it makes your clients feel important and like they're part of an exclusive "club."
"Thinking of You" Mailings and Phone Calls
Reach out to your A-list clients on a regular basis. Call to chat about anything but business. Clip articles and send books on topics that interest them. Acknowledge their birthdays and milestone events, like weddings, births, promotions, anniversaries, etc.
VIP Offers
Institute a frequent-flyer-type program for your top clients, rewarding them for their loyalty. This could include frequency or bulk discounts; gift cards to area restaurants or spas; or even a weekend getaway.
