Sure, we can sing our own praises. In fact, it’s critical that we sell our products, our services and ourselves in all our marketing and promotion pieces. But self-driven accolades will only take us so far – and that’s where testimonials play such an important role.
Nothing is more convincing or powerful than testimonials – third-party endorsements from satisfied clients. These sound bites can be used in brochures, web content, newsletters and so forth.
More often than not, however, we have to solicit testimonials – they don’t necessarily come to us. There are several ways to obtain them:
- Send out client-satisfaction questionnaires and include a self-addressed, stamped envelope
- Send a letter or e-mail specifically requesting the testimonial (include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with snail-mail requests)
- Call and ask
Be sure to ask permission to use clients’ names in all printed and web materials. And don’t ever stop collecting them; testimonials are critical tools in our marketing arsenals.
