THE POWER OF TESTIMONIALS

Sure, we can sing our own praises. In fact, it’s critical that we sell our products, our services and ourselves in all our marketing and promotion pieces. But self-driven accolades will only take us so far – and that’s where testimonials play such an important role.

Nothing is more convincing or powerful than testimonials – third-party endorsements from satisfied clients. These sound bites can be used in brochures, web content, newsletters and so forth.

More often than not, however, we have to solicit testimonials – they don’t necessarily come to us. There are several ways to obtain them:

  • Send out client-satisfaction questionnaires and include a self-addressed, stamped envelope
  • Send a letter or e-mail specifically requesting the testimonial (include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with snail-mail requests)
  • Call and ask
Be sure to ask permission to use clients’ names in all printed and web materials. And don’t ever stop collecting them; testimonials are critical tools in our marketing arsenals.
